Collection: Kukri Knives Collection
Handmade Damascus Kukri Knives – Gurkha Heritage Forged in Steel
Few blades in history command the respect of the kukri. The iconic forward-curved blade of Nepal’s legendary Gurkha warriors has been feared on battlefields from the Himalayas to the Western Front — a blade so effective that the Gurkha soldiers who carried it became the most celebrated light infantry in the world. At DRSKNIVES HUB, every kukri in this collection is individually hand-forged from premium high-carbon Damascus steel, honoring the Gurkha blade tradition with craftsmanship worthy of the warriors who made the kukri famous.
What Is a Kukri?
The kukri (also spelled khukuri) is a forward-curved, single-edged blade originating from Nepal, where it has been the national knife and a symbol of Gurkha warrior identity for centuries. The kukri’s distinctive inward curve is its defining functional feature — the curved geometry concentrates chopping force toward the forward section of the blade, making the kukri one of the most effective chopping tools ever designed. A well-made kukri can split firewood, clear brush, process game, and serve as a close-quarters weapon with equal effectiveness.
The kukri is also characterized by its notch (cho or kauda) near the base of the blade — a feature with both practical and ceremonial significance in Nepali tradition. The handle is typically made from wood, bone, or horn, and the kukri traditionally ships with two small companion knives (karda and chakmak) for utility and sharpening tasks. Our handmade Damascus kukris honor these traditional design elements while elevating the blade to collector-grade quality.
Damascus Steel Kukri Knives – Warrior Performance, Artisan Beauty
Forging a kukri in Damascus steel creates a blade of extraordinary capability and visual impact. The forward-curved geometry of the kukri profile, combined with the flowing patterns of layered Damascus steel, produces a blade that looks as powerful as it performs. Each kukri blade is individually forged from 256 to 512 layers of 1075 and 1095 high-carbon steel forge-welded together — creating a unique Damascus pattern that is never repeated across any two kukris in our collection.
At HRC 55–60, our Damascus kukri blades deliver exceptional chopping power and edge retention. The high-carbon content allows the blade to be sharpened to a razor edge, while the layered construction provides the toughness to handle the demanding chopping, splitting, and survival tasks the kukri was designed for. Whether you use your kukri for outdoor work, bushcraft, or display, the Damascus steel will perform and look exceptional for decades.
Kukri Sizes – From Utility to Warrior Grade
Our Damascus kukri collection covers the full range of traditional kukri sizes:
- Small Kukri (6–8 inch blade) – A compact, lightweight kukri ideal for everyday utility tasks, camp cooking, and general outdoor use. Easy to carry and highly versatile for the full range of daily tasks.
- Standard Kukri (9–12 inch blade) – The classic Gurkha service kukri size. The ideal balance of chopping power and maneuverability for outdoor survival, bushcraft, and camp use. The most popular size for collectors and outdoor enthusiasts.
- Large Kukri (13–16 inch blade) – A commanding warrior-grade kukri with maximum chopping power. Excellent for heavy outdoor tasks, wood splitting, and as a display piece that commands attention in any collection.
Handle Materials – Traditional & Premium
Our Damascus kukri handles are crafted from premium natural materials that honor the traditional Nepali kukri aesthetic while delivering modern performance:
- Buffalo Horn – The most traditional kukri handle material. Dark, dramatic, and virtually indestructible — buffalo horn handles have been used on Gurkha kukris for centuries.
- Camel Bone – Dense, naturally textured, and beautifully patterned. Provides excellent grip and a premium aesthetic that complements the Damascus blade.
- Stag Antler – Natural, rugged, and uniquely textured. The organic character of stag antler gives each kukri a distinctive, one-of-a-kind appearance.
- Stabilized Wood – Resin-impregnated hardwood in a range of natural colors and grain patterns. Resistant to moisture and outdoor conditions — ideal for kukris that will see regular field use.
- Rosewood & Hardwood – Traditional wooden handles in the style of authentic Nepali kukris, providing a period-correct aesthetic for collectors of historical blades.
Full-Tang Construction – Chopping Power Without Compromise
Every kukri in this collection is built with full-tang construction — the blade steel runs the complete length of the handle, creating a single continuous piece of steel from tip to pommel. This construction is essential for a chopping blade like the kukri, where the forces generated during heavy chopping and splitting tasks would quickly destroy a partial-tang construction. Full-tang construction ensures your Damascus kukri can handle the most demanding outdoor tasks without risk of handle separation or blade failure.

Frequently Asked Questions – Damascus Kukri Knives
What is the kukri best used for?
The kukri is one of the most versatile blades ever designed. Its forward-curved geometry concentrates chopping force toward the tip, making it exceptionally effective for chopping wood, clearing brush, and processing game. The kukri also excels at general camp tasks, food preparation, and survival applications. Historically, it was carried as both a utility tool and a close-quarters weapon by Gurkha warriors — a testament to its versatility and effectiveness.
How heavy is a kukri knife?
Kukri weight varies significantly by size. A small utility kukri (6–8 inch blade) typically weighs 200–350 grams. A standard service kukri (9–12 inch blade) weighs 400–600 grams. A large warrior-grade kukri (13–16 inch blade) can weigh 700 grams to over 1 kilogram. The weight is an important part of the kukri’s chopping effectiveness — the forward-weighted blade uses its own momentum to drive through wood and other materials.
What is the notch (cho) on a kukri for?
The notch (called cho, kauda, or karda notch) near the base of the kukri blade has both practical and ceremonial significance. Practically, it is said to prevent blood from running down the handle during use, and it may serve as a blood groove. Ceremonially, it represents the trident of the Hindu god Shiva, the footprint of a cow (sacred in Nepali culture), or the female reproductive symbol — interpretations vary by region and tradition. All our Damascus kukris include this traditional notch.
